Accessibility Statement

Our formal commitment to ensuring digital accessibility, inclusive design, and barrier-free mathematical calculation for all users of UnitConverters.help.

Inclusive Access for Everyone:

Science, mathematics, and unit conversions should be accessible to all individuals, regardless of ability, technology, or neurodivergence. We continually test and improve our user interface to conform with global accessibility standards.

1. Standards Conformance

UnitConverters.help strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments.

Our platform also adheres to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

2. Practical Accessibility Features Implemented

We have engineered key accessibility features into our frontend design system:

Full Keyboard Navigation

All interactive converter elements—including numeric input fields, unit swap toggles, category tabs, and dropdown menus—are fully navigable using standard keyboard inputs (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and Arrow keys) with prominent, high-contrast visual focus rings.

Screen Reader Optimization

Calculators are equipped with semantic HTML5 structural elements (<main>, <nav>, <article>) and descriptive ARIA attributes. Real-time dynamic calculation results utilize aria-live="polite" regions so screen readers announce transformed figures without disrupting the user.

High Contrast & Color Vision

Text and interactive controls are tested against WCAG contrast ratio requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for standard text and 3:1 for large graphical elements). We ensure color is never the sole visual indicator of information or error states.

Responsive Zoom & Reflow

Content gracefully reflows and remains fully operational when zoomed up to 200% without horizontal scrollbars or loss of content functionality. Touch targets adhere to minimum 44x44 CSS pixel dimensions for ease of mobile touch.

3. Assistive Technologies Supported

UnitConverters.help is routinely tested across multiple desktop and mobile assistive technologies, including:

  • Screen Readers: NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access), JAWS (Job Access With Speech), and Apple VoiceOver (macOS and iOS).
  • Browser Zoom & Magnification: Native browser zoom controls and OS-level display scalers.
  • Reduced Motion: CSS media query @media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) automatically disables decorative animations and smooth-scrolling behaviors for users with vestibular sensitivities.

4. Known Limitations & Continuous Improvement

While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, certain high-density mathematical tables or complex dynamic conversion charts may present navigation challenges on older legacy screen readers. We are actively working to provide alternative descriptive text summaries and simplified linear data tables for all multi-unit comparison matrices.

5. Feedback & Contact Information

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of UnitConverters.help. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, experience difficulty reading any calculation, or require content in an alternative format, please let us know:
